CIF SS DIVISIONAL
LIVE MEET SUMS

Cerritos College - Saturday, May 19th, 2007

Division I - Boys -D1 Boys 100 -
Isaiah Green (LB Poly) came to run, with a great race out of lane 2. 10.61 Prelims star from last week, Charles Saesun of Rancho Cucamonga had a poor start, and closed down for second. Green's winning time was a fine 10.48w with the wind +2.3 making it wind-aided. Saesun, a soph, was 10.57w.

-D1 Boys 200 -
Whoa! Bryshon Nellum was not special right out of the blocks, but 40 meters into the turn he was building! He came by the 100m start line in 10.5 and was flying, without a bit of slowing the final 100. His time, an amazing 20.58 (wind +1.0) the #4 California time ever and Southern Section best ever! Quincy Watts 20.50 (Olympic Gold Medalist), Brian Bridgewater 20.53 (NCAA Divisional champ), Calvin Harrison 20.57 (Olympic Gold Medalist Relay), and Nellum, some good company!!!

-D1 Boys 400 -
Bryshon Nellum (LB Poly) came to run! He was out at 11.6 with a definite lead at 100 meters. Through the 200 at 22.6 (into a breeze) he was far away from the pack, with a 34.5 at 300 meters. Racing alone, he was right at 12.0 for the final 100 meters for a super 46.55 win, with teammate Joey Hughes next at 48.39.

-D1 Boys 800 -
Erick Arteaga (Alhambra) leader through the 400 at 55, with Ryan Gamboa (Upland) and Steve Norton (La Sierra) up to the lead by the 600 at 1:24. Gamboa, who was hurt part of the spring, worked the final 200 to win at 1:52.55 over Norton's 1:53.10.

D1 Boys 1600 -
Dylan Knight (La Sierra) 31.1 opening 200 200 with the pack very close. The pace slowed to 64.4 at the 400, with Royal's Hudson Andrews and Jun Richel next. Spencer Knight had moved up to the front end by the 600 at 1:37.0. At 2:09.6 the pack was all close, with things starting to accelerate. It was single file through 1000 meters at 2:41.2, with Spencer Knight and Andrews from Royal pulling away. At 3:12.2 the front duo had pulled away by 20 meters, with they the only ones showing real snap through the 1400 at 3:43.5. Andrews easily raced by down the homestretch with a final 200 very near 27.0 on the way to a time right at 4:11. Andrews 4:11.02 - Dylan Knight 4:11.60 - Spencer Knight 4:14.51.

-D1 Boys 3200 -
Division I and III would run together. JT Sullivan and Scott Blair of Trabuco Hills led up front, sharing things through a 4:36.4 1600 (after a 2:22.4 800). Surprisingly that edged them way ahead of the pack, with Spencer Knight, and defending State Champ Michael Cybulski (Royal, Simi) (obviously short on conditioning after a long injury), fourth at five and a half laps. Sullivan edged ahead of his teammate as they approached six laps (6:58.3 there). Sullivan rolled away to a good lead during lap seven, with Spencer Knight into second ahead of Blair. Sullivan and Knight moved right at the bell, with JT's effort seeming to first mellow Spencer's spirits, but the La Sierra flash put up a head of steam with 200 to go and raced in to just miss catching JT at the finish. Sullivan was 27.7 for the final 200, with Knight having to be in the 26 second range!! JT was 9:11.53 for the win with Spencer Knight 9:11.78 and Blair 9:15.66 in third.

-D1 Boys HH -
Super contest. Frosh Devalee Pedrogo (Mission Viejo) appeared to have the best start, with Trevor Habberstad moving in the middle. Once waited for Zion Babb (Alhambra (14.00 last week) to close down, which he did, but Habberstat shockingly won 13.93-13.98, with the multi-event Canyon star headed for Washington State now the #11 prep hurdler in the nation!!

-D1 Boys 300H -
Good race, with Cameron Stepney (San Gorgonio) out quick, with Trevor Habberstad (Canyon) challenging at 24.1 for the 200. After a great stretch run, Trevor staggered over the final hurdle, but was able to come in ahead, racing 37.74 to Stepney's 38.05, the Canyon star completing a super hurdle meet!!

D1 Boys 400 Re -
Rancho Cucamonga led into the first exchange, with Bryshon Nellum (LB Poly) rocketing the backstretch to give his team a lead over Aliso Niguel at the start around the second turn. Good exchanges had the Jackrabbits rocket in 40.71, with Aliso Niguel next at 42.07. #4 time in the nation this year.

-D1 Boys 1600 Re -
Rancho Cucamonga was out well, with Poly in lane 1 a ways back early on the 3 turn stagger. Poly led off at 48.4, with RC 48.9. RC edged by on leg 2, with Poly racing ahead near the end of that section (48.7 for both). Same script leg three with Rancho edging close, with this time they were close at the start of the anchor, with Poly 48.3 and RC 47.9. Bryshon Nellum kept Rancho on the outside through 200, with the RC anchor actually passing Bryshon Nellum shortly after before the Jackrabbit anchor put the pedal down and raced 47.0 for a 3:12.40 winner. 48.6 for the RC anchor in their fine 3:13.99.

-D1 Boys HJ -
Lightly traveled during the regular season, Darryl Drake (San Gorgonio) was 6-07 last week in qualifying, and 6-08 here for a win over Upland's Taylor Hobson at the same height. Drake did struggle a bit, with three efforts needed at 6-06, with a second effort clearance at 6-08 for the win. Four others cleared 6-06.

D1 Boys PV -
Chip Reiter of Chino Hills listed the winner at 14-04, with Tyler Woodard (Canyon, CC) next at 14-03 and Rith South (Wilson, Long Beach) also 14-03. Interesting three no heights, with the team points for 7th and 8th going unclaimed.

-D1 Boys LJ -
Taveon Burke (Lancaster) won a close contest at 22-11.75 (0), moving from fourth to first on his final jump, over area rival Terrance Sheppard (Palmdale) 22-11 (+1.8). Kevin Kuechler (Mission Viejo) was also within an inch of the winner at 22-10.75 (+1.1),with Upland's fine all-arounder Taylor Hobson was next at 22-07.5 (+0.1).

-D1 Boys TJ -
Emmanuel Neizer (Rancho Cucamonga) dominated. His 47-09.75 +2.0) opener could have won, with improvement to 48-06.25 (+.3) on his second effort. Ryan Swafford (Vista Murrieta) was next at 47-01 (+1.6).

-D1 Boys SP -
Joel Heaton (Aliso Niguel) was over out over 60 feet last week in the Prelims at 60-02.25, and he continued to improve, here to 60-04 for the win, building through 55-11.5, 56-10.25, 58-01, and the winning toss! Lei Talamaivao (Rancho Cucamonga) was next at 56-02.5.

-D1 Boys DT -
Raul Gonzalez (Alta Loma) a 173-09 second throw to win over Karl Gehrke (Serrano, Phelan), who was 173-05 on his thrird toss. They were the only in the field over 160 feet.

Division I - Girls

-Girls D1 100 -
Rancho Verde's red clad duo in lanes 4 and 6, Jessika Hornsby and Alicia King broke well, with Wilson (Long Beach) star Shelise Williams closing in between them for an 11.73 (+1.1) win over Hornsby 11.77 and King's 11.82. Highland (Palmdale) frosh was a fine fourth at 11.92.

-Girls D1 200 -
Good group here, with Shelise Williams (Wilson, Long Beach) 12.0 the leader off the turn. Surprising frosh Jessica Davis (Highland, Palmdale) came close from her lane eight spot, but Shelise was the winner 24.03-24.06. Shelise has shown to be one very tough competitor, with Davis one of the bright young stars of the future in the state off her efforts here. Rancho Verde went 3-5-7 here with Jessika Hornsby leading at 24.19.

-Girls D1 400 -
Strong field with Turquoise Thompson (LB Poly) leading through 200m at 25.9 over frosh Angelica Weaver (Rancho Cucamonga). Jasmine Joseph of Poly was on the outside in lane 8, with 39.6 for Thompson at 300 meters as her Poly teammate started her gather. Joseph edged up to and just past as Thompson leaned for a 53.75-53.76 win. Big points for Poly with their 1-2.

-Girls D1 800 -
30.6 opening 200 with Emily Dunn (Esperanza) and Ashley Richie (Silverado, Victor Valley) sharing the work. Dunn moved ahead at the 400 at 64.6, with Fountain Valley's Anja Disiena seriously challenging and keeping the pace rolling through the 600 at 1:36.8. Dunn exploded with 150 meters to go, and rocketed in to a Nation Leading 2:07.49, with Disiena 2:10.23 and State Champion Haley Lawrence (Aliso Niguel) creeping back in the picture at 2:11.17 in third.

-Girls D1 1600 -
Shannon Murakami (Saugus) had Claire Collison (Crescenta Valley) tag along through 34.3-68.8 splits, with a four meter lead at 1:44.1 through the 600 (35.3 that 200). Kauren Tarver sat back 20 meters. 2:20.1 at the 800 for Murakami with Collison 20 meters back, Tarver that far back in third, with Brooke Russell (Hart) fourth. The race was over by 1200, with Murakami 3:33.1 at the 1200 and Collison just under 3:40. Shannon seemed determined the entire final lap, racing 35.2 for the first 200 (4:08.3 at 1400) and coming in to win in the 4:42's with a 69 second final lap! Murakami 4:42.50 for the win with Collison 4:58.67 with Tarver 4:59.22 in third.

-Girls D1 3200 -
Christy Adamyk (Glendora) and Shannon Murakami (Saugus) set the early pace, with Murakami moving ahead at the three and a half lap mark to come by the 1600 at 5:11.3. Shannon led by 60 meters at 6:30 through 5 laps, with Rachel Lange (Crescenta Valley) and Sarah Cummings (Corona del Mar), the latter in her third race of the day, next. At six it was Murakami at 7:33, with the Lang-Cummings duo at 8:00. 9:15.5 with one to go for Murakami. Rachel Lange of CV ran the race of her life in second at 10:44.45. Murakami was 10:31.24, with nine in the combined race at 10:52.16 or better!

-Girls D1 HH -
Natalie Roy (Mission Viejo) a steady race in the easily spotted Yellow and Gold Diablo uniform in the middle, a solid personal best 14.12 (wind +1.9) win by a couple of meters over Lauren Williams (Chino Hills) 14.41.

-Girls D1 300H -
Turquoise Thompson (LB Poly) was among the nation's best at 41.74, and charged out from the start, before suddenly going down on the turn with what appeared to be a hamstring pull or cramp as she approached the third hurdle. April Pate (Carter, Rialto) continued her fine season with a 43.52 win over frosh Kristen Powers (Chaparral) 44.16.

-Girls D1 400 Re -
Long Beach Poly led into the first exchange with Jasmine Joseph indicated the lead-off runner over the PA, with a visual exchange with Turquoise Thompson into the backstretch. Wilson (Long Beach) charged leg 2 to work up to Rancho Verde and Poly in the battle for the lead, but the Poly Jackrabbits, with Hawkins on leg 3 had a definite lead into the anchor, with Wilson seeming to take off too early for the anchor leg. Poly raced to a 45.58 with Woodruff on the anchor, finally bettering their 45.79 Arcadia Invite time, but showing the ability to go still faster with perfect stick work. Rancho Verde was 46.15 in second, and Wilson next at 47.12.

-Girls D1 1600 Re -
Long Beach Poly and Rancho Verde were out strongly, with RV 56.6, LB Poly 56.7 and Wilson 59.6 on the lead-off. Poly led at the second exchange off a 56.1 leg, with RV close, and Rancho Cucamonga moving up. Rancho Verde appeared to cut in on Poly at the the start of the backstretch on leg three and the yelow flag immediately went up. Poly was 60.6 during a leg that lost stride fully, with Rancho Verde racing to a big lead. Jasmine Joseph closed the anchor at 52.8 to eventually win for Poly at 3:46.24. Officials huddled on the backstretch to figure out the yellow flag affecting the Rancho Verde-Poly situation, with the video replay an interesting one to make possible the review of the non-disqualification call. The Poly athlete seemed quite affected by the RV Girl’s action. The teams would finish 1-2 in the team scoring (RV 65 - P 62), with the 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 through eight in the finals.

-Girls D1 HJ -
Karen Han (Arcadia), Tara Richmond (Poly, Long Beach), and Ashley Henry (Rancho Cucamonga) all had no misses thorugh their 5-03 clearances, as did Ashley Smith from Millikan. Richmond and Smith were over 5-05 on their first efforts, with Han a second effort success there, and Henry over on her third try. At 5-07 Smith continued perfection on the day with a first effort “make” with none of the others able to clear that height. Smith went on to a pleasing 5-09 clearance on her second attempt, with Ashley, Richmond, and Henry only ninth graders, and Han a junior to bring a good group back in 2007!

-Girls D1 PV -
Katelyn Beighton (Los Alamitos) showed the Orange County strength in this event with an 11-06 win over Glendora's consistent Sarah Kasai at 11-00, with Beighton’s winner one inch short of her reported seasonal best of 11-07 from April’s Arcadia Invitational.

-Girls D1 LJ -
Rancho Verde impressive 1-2 sweep to help in the points department, with frosh Alycia Herring an 18-08.25w win (+2.4), and soph teammate Brittany Bozeman 18-02.25w (+2.3) next. Surprisingly only three in the division were over 18 feet, with Debra Amoah (Carter, Fontana) 18-00.5w (+2.8) third.

-Girls D1 TJ -
Madeline LeDuc (Glendora) came back from two fouls to improve through 37-03.25 (+1.6) and 38-02.5 (+0.21) on the way to a win over Melissa Keltner (Chino Hils) 37-04.5w (+3.0), with Christina Murillo (Trabuco Hills) joining them over 37 feet at 37-02w (+2.4) for third.

Girls D1 SP -
Stephanie Aliimatafitafi (Paramount) was a big winner, with all of her 40-07.75-39-07, 42-06, and 40-00.5 tosses able to take today’s competition. Jessica Bonner (Chaparral, Temecula) was next at 38-09.5 before moving up one place in the Discus.

-Girls D1 DT -
Jessica Bonner (Chaparral) moved up a place from the Shot, with a 142-07 second throw winner over Heather Snyder (Saugus) 132-05. Bonner’s series was 129-02, 142-07, 140-01, and 138-01, some consistency!

Division II Boys

-Boys D2 100 -
Fine race, with first year trackster Josh Brown (El Modena) out quickly, with Bryan Williams (Valley View) also up-front. Out of lane 5 between them Josh Harrison (Rio Mesa) rocketed up the last 30 meters, with the trio amazingly all finishing at 10.79, with Williams-Brown-Harrison sorted out in that order eventually in the photo. Brown was indicated is a first year track athlete.

Boys D2 200 -
Josh Harrison (Rio Mesa) led into the straightaway at 10.8, then 400 star Nevin Gutteriez (North, Riverside) went into overdrive, racing away to a win at 21.57 (-0.8)-21.88 over the Rio Mesa senior.

-Boys D2 400 -
Reggie Wyatt (North, Riverside) show here. With some good folks in the field including teammate Nevin Gutteriez, Wyatt in lane 6 was out at 22.4 for the first 200. No one was close at 34.1 at the 300, with the super soph from North rolling in to finish at 46.87, the #8 time in the nation for the year!!
