AJ Acosta and Andrew Bumbalough went 1-2 in the US Junior
1500.
Acosta's sub-56 second final lap there showed the ability to lead the
duo into the Beijing Finals with perfect races there

Depending
upon which event that 2005 World Youth 1500m Gold Medalist Bilal Mansour
Ali (Bahrain) decides on (he's also a low 1:44 800 runner to go along
with 3:33.86), he will be one of the favorties. The question might be
whether he will be able to compete as Kenya has
raised questions about the age of this immigrant from its land.
2004 World Junior champ Abdelaati Iguidar (Marocco), with a 3:34.72
best from this July, and runner-up in that competition two years ago,
Benson Marrianyi Esho (Kenya) 3:35.80, both return, with Esho having
the problem of making his own nation's team. That does bring us
to the Kenyan possibilities, with at least a half a dozen sub-3:40 stars
available for the team. Augustine Choge led the 1-5 2005 Kenya
World Junior Championship Cross Country sweep, and has a 3:33.99 from
this June, with Wesley Cheruiyot (Kenya) 3:37.64 for third in the Bislett
Games this June. Bisluke Kiplagat (Kenya) has a 3:38.19 best from
this June. You can probably mail a couple of medals to that nation
right now. Alvaro Rodriguez (Spain) has run a fine 3:39.28 this
June already.
